Metro Atlanta residents invited to workshops on home repair, contractor fraud and scams

ATLANTA -- Following recent severe weather in and around Atlanta, a local nonprofit will hold two workshops to help protect citizens from scams and fraud associated with home repair contractors.

The National Center for Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud (NCPHIF) helps teach and coach homeowners to avoid becoming victims.

Phae Howard, a home repair fraud prevention expert and Executive Director of NCPHIF said "Disaster/storm victims are especially vulnerable to contractor fraud. The want to hurry and get back to normal and this makes them very vulnerable. After disaster hits, con artists take advantage of stressed-out homeowners, making them victims, twice.

NCPHIF's "SmartPower" workshop will be held June 22, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the East Cobb Library on Lower Roswell Road. The second workshop is set for June 29, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Dunwoody Library on Chamblee Dunwoody Road.
