Atlanta is Getting a Make-Ogre :: Family-Friendly Activities for Shrek the Musical

ATLANTA (April 26, 2011) – Atlanta-area families are in for a treat as their favorite swamp-dwelling ogre makes a stop on stage in Atlanta!  SHREK THE MUSICAL will play at The Fabulous Fox Theatre from April 26-May 1.

On Wednesday, April 27, families can also take advantage of a special BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE ticket deal for that evening’s performance of SHREK THE MUSICAL (using code KIDS, valid on tickets in price level 1). Little Ogres and Princesses can also attend a FREEKids Night on Broadway” celebration in the Fox Theatre’s Grand Salon from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. The fun-filled family event will include a variety of activities like cookie decorating, arts and crafts, games, coloring sheets, a prize wheel, Shrek-themed treats from Morelli’s Ice Cream. As a special treat, Kid’s Night participants can meet the two little girls who play ‘Young Shrek’ and ‘Young Fiona’ in the musical; the actresses will be available to sign autographs from 6:30 – 7:15PM.

Gwinnett County’s Coolray Field ballpark went “green” on Thursday, April 14 as more than 1,500 fans received Shrek ears as they watched the Gwinnett Braves take on the Charlotte Knights.  The sea of green undoubtedly worked to the home team advantage, as the Braves celebrated a 3-1 victory!  The Shrek-themed game day also included a few surprises – Shrek ears were imposed on the home team players (and Donkey ears were added to the opposing Charlotte Knights team photos) and prize giveaways with several families winning a four-pack of tickets to see the show at the Fox Theatre.

A few local businesses are also “going green” in honor of SHREK THE MUSICAL.  Morelli’s Ice Cream and Rita’s Italian Ice will both feature limited edition Shrek flavors during the Atlanta engagement.

Morelli’s Ice Cream will feature “Shrek in the Mud” ice cream in store for $3.95 from April 26-May 1. Morelli’s is located at 749 Moreland Avenue Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30316 and in the Edgewood Retail District at Caroline St NE Atlanta GA 30307 (Location Coming Soon).

Rita’s Italian Ice, located at 931 Monroe Dr., Atlanta, GA 30308, will offer Shrek (green apple) and donkey (chocolate-chocolate chip) flavors during the Atlanta engagement of Shrek.  Regular size costs $2.57 and large costs $3.07.

SHREK THE MUSICAL, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to life on stage.

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a villain with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand… and his name is Shrek.

Featuring a terrific score of 19 all-new songs, big laughs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, SHREK THE MUSICAL is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!
