Carmel Elementary School Receives National Recognition | Community Spirit
Carmel Elementary School was honored by PTO Today (Parent Teacher Organization Today) in their 2011-12 Parent Group of the Year contest. This contest is an annual celebration of the best Parent Groups in the nation based on their contributions to their school and community. Carmel Elementary School PTA received an Honorable Mention and was singled out for that recognition for its overall group activities and programs.
Carmel Elementary School PTA listed the following accomplishments and highlights in their rnomination/application for Parent Group of the Year:1. Helped finance a Defibrillator to be purchased for the school-we had none. 2. Purchased recess equipment for all grade levels and Special Ed. 3. Sponsored the Sock Hop, Fall Festival, Holiday Workshop, and Bingo Night.4. Purchased new risers for the Music Department, which will allow more children to be on stage at one time. The risers will also be used for other events.5. Hand Sanitizers for throughout the school.6. Arranged author/illustrator visits and Book Signings plus other assemblies.7. Financially supported the Mentor Program.8. Coordinate volunteers for all the events, hearing and vision screening, book fairs, media center volunteers, room parents and more.9. Provided $10,000 for the creation of a Guided Reading Room to benefit all students.10. Helped finance the Cultural Arts Day.11. Purchased Math Enrichment curriculum.12. Purchase Lost Tooth Necklaces and Oops Stickers.13. Murals for the Media Center.14. Hosted Staff Appreciation Lunches.15. Provide Birthday Goodie Bags for all Staff along with a monthly sheet cake.16. Our Photography Team takes pictures at most events. All pictures are posted on our website www.carmelpta.org under Event Photos as well as our Facebook Group page.17. Patriotic Bookmarks purchased for all students for Patriot Day (9/11).18. Sponsored 2 Red Cross Blood Drives.19. Autographed Books for Media Center.20. Purchased Microwave for Staff Workroom.21. Manage Facebook Group page of 270 active members.22. Maintain website www.carmelpta.org.23. Create and print monthly newsletters.24. Helped finance and staff 4th grade Colonial Days.25. Sponsor Reflections Art program.26. Publicity for Carmel students/events.27. Received national recognition for volunteerism resulting in a $500 donation to Carmel.28. Box Tops, Campbell’s Labels, and Coke Reward Programs.29. Purchase classroom supplies as needed.30. A voice for our stakeholders-parents, staff, and students.31. Book Drive and Pajama Drive.32. Help in classrooms.33.
