Carmel Elementary Welcomes Guest Reader

Carmel Elementary Welcomes Guest Reader

Carmel Elementary School recently welcomed Miss Jackie as a special guest who read and sang with more than ten classes. Many of the students have been learning about fairy tales and fables during the first quarter and Miss Jackie read Silly Goose's Big Story by Keiko Kasza. The students also learned how to tell if a book is authored by one person and illustrated by another. In the case of Silly Goose, Ms. Kasza is both the author and illustrator. Each group also enjoyed fan favorite, Pete the Cat, written by Eric Litwin.  Carmel parent Matt Rasnick said, “My daughter came home with a bookmark from FoxTale today; she's in 2nd grade at Carmel Elementary school. She is very enthusiastic about a  story that she heard today, about a cat who keeps stepping in different colors and singing a little song about it each time.”

Students at Carmel Elementary and Indian Knoll Elementary welcomed author and illustrator Peter Brown who was on a nationwide book tour for his latest book, Creepy Carrots.  Brown visited with more than a thousand students between both schools and brought along a multimedia presentation showing his earliest stories and pictures from his own elementary school days which was very relatable for the students.  Although Brown usually writes and illustrates his own books, in the case of Creepy Carrots who just did the illustrations; the story was by author Aaron Reynolds.
