TODAY: Cobb open house on regional transportation projects

MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will host a public information open house to present the draft of a transportation projects list to submit for potential inclusion in the Regional Sales Tax vote next summer.

The open house will be on Monday, Mar. 21 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the BOC Room of the Cobb County Government (Second Floor, 100 Cherokee Street, Marietta, 30090).

There will be no formal presentation of the proposed projects. Instead, representatives from Cobb, its municipalities and community improvement districts will be on-hand to answer questions.

In June, then-Governor Sonny Perdue signed into law the Georgia Transportation Investment Act, which created 12 regions throughout the state and gives each the opportunity to collect funding for transportation projects by increasing local sales tax rates.

Cobb is one of 12 counties in the Atlanta region and will have the chance in summer 2012 to vote on a pre-identified list of projects to be funded within a 10-year period of tax collection.
