ACWORTH, Ga. -- Author and Marietta resident Dan Farr will host a book signing in Acworth next month.

Farr will sign copies of Final Score! Sports Devotions Volume 1 on Saturday, Mar. 2 at Books-A-Million. He will be at the store from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cobb Encore Series brings The Association to stage

Marietta, Ga. -- The hit 1960's band The Association will perform during the Encore Series on February 23 at the Cobb Civic Center. 

A spokesperson for Cobb County said the show starts at 8:00 p.m. The Civic Center is located at 548 Marietta Parkway. 

The Association has produced singles including "Windy" and "Along Comes Mary." The group has sold over 80 million albums, as well as earned six gold records and two platinum records. In 1967, the band became the first group to open a rock festival, now known as the historic Monterey Pop Festival.

Local author to hold signing at Acworth Bookstore

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Paulding County-based author Bryan M. Powell will hold a signing for his latest book in Acworth this weekend.

The novel, Stranger in the White House, is the newest addition to Powell's Stranger Series.

He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Acworth Bookstore.

Quest College Fair coming to west Cobb

KENNESAW, Ga. -- A college fair created especially for students in west Cobb County will be held later this month.

Nearly 100 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate in this year's Quest College Fair, which will be Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at North Cobb High School.

Several workshop sessions will also be held during the fair, including one for students who are interested in pursuing athletic scholarships, one for those who want to attend military academies and one that teaches students how to obtain financial aid.

North Cobb High School is located at 3400 Old U.S. Highway 41 in Kennesaw.

The Quest College Fair is for students at Allatoona, Harrison, Hillgrove, Kennesaw Mountain, McEachern and North Cobb high schools.

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

According to Pike Nurseries, roughly 350 species of birds live in Georgia. The birding class will teach participants the types of seed that are best for attracting birds, the three essentials needed to draw birds and how to provide for birds during the cold winter months.

Eat barbeque to help Acworth man

ACWORTH, Ga. -- An Acworth man is in need, and residents will band together this week to help him.

Jeff Murch, a longtime resident and businessman, has been battling cancer for several years.

His friends and neighbors will host a Helping One Guy event to raise money for his treatment. The fun will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at JD's BBQ in downtown Acworth.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some great food while showing their love for Murch.
