Chick-fil-A to host mother-son 'Date Knight'

ATLANTA -- All of the Chick-fil-A restaurants in metro Atlanta will host a special mother-son Date Knight on Saturday, Apr. 28.

The Date Knight format will be similar to that of the franchise's massively popular Daddy-Daughter Date Nights. It will give mothers and sons a special chance to enjoy some quality time together.

The event will have a medieval theme, hence the "Knight" part of its title.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we come in contact with," Robin Lomax, Chick-fil-A area marketing director, said in a statement. "We understand the importance of mother-son relationships and want to encourage local moms to come to Chick-fil-A, enjoy their sons' company over a meal and have fun."

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Acworth officials are bringing an award-winning program for teen drivers and their parents to the city.

Georgia Teens Ride with P.R.I.D.E. (Parents Reducing Injuries and Driver Error) is a free two-hour course that provides recent recipients of driver's licenses and learner's permits with tips for how to best utilize their mandatory 40 hours of supervised practice.

The Acworth Police Department will offer five P.R.I.D.E. sessions over the course of 2012. All will be taught by police department staff.

Zoo Atlanta Adding Giraffe Feeding Experience

Zoo Atlanta is adding a new experience that will soon delight visitors.  In a holiday email sent to its members, Zoo Atlanta, announced a new experience being planned for late Spring 2012, which is sure to brighten the days of thousands of zoo visitors in the coming years.  Zoo Atlanta is planning a new deck overlooking the savanna exhibit. This overlook will provide the opportunity to create a special giraffe feeding experience for Zoo visitors, who will be able to purchase lettuce to be fed to the giraffes.  An exhibit  opening date and more details will follow in the coming months.

A little rain could not damper the glow of the night on Tuesday, December 20th.  Approximately 150 community members braved the rainy, gloomy skies and gathered in the Downtown Woodstock City Park to celebrate freedom, in particular religious freedom.

Registration open for Acworth Daddy Daughter Dance

ACWORTH, Ga. -- There's still time to register for Acworth's annual Daddy Daughter Dance.

The 2012 event's theme is "A Mad Hatter Tea Party." It will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at North Cobb High School.

Daddies with daughters ages 13 and under are invited to take a special trip down the rabbit hole for an evening of music, games, refreshments and more in Wonderland. Participants are encouraged to dress up and wear their loudest "mad hatter hats."

The cost per couple is $25 for Acworth residents and $35 for non-residents. Visit www.acworthparksandrecreation.org to sign up for the dance.

Chanukah -The Festival of Lights- for many of us brings back fond memories of childhood years and serves to renew our sense of identity. The Chanukah lights provide us with warmth, joy, strength and inspiration. Such is the purpose of a community-wide celebration to be held at the Downtown Woodstock Park this Chanukah.  The universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness shines at this special holiday time.

The Chabad Jewish Center along with Jewish business leaders invites the entire community to celebrate the Festival of Lights at the 4th annual public Menorah lighting ceremony. The grand Chanukah celebration will begin at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, in the Downtown Woodstock Park with the lighting of the ten-foot menorah followed by music and delicious, hot latkes.
