Pike Nurseries to hold terrarium classes

(WXIA) -- Pike Nurseries is offering two classes for customers who want to bring the outdoors into their homes.

On Saturday, July 19, Pike shoppers can attend a free terrarium and fairy garden class, where they will learn how to create and maintain glass gardens.

The class is free and will be held at every Pike Nurseries location at 9 a.m.

A similar class geared toward children will be hosted Wednesday, July 23 at 10 a.m., also at every Pike store. Children will make their own fairy gardens to take home. The class costs $14.99 per child.

Pike to hold butterfly, hummingbird classes

(WXIA) -- Metro Atlanta residents who are interested in having more butterflies and hummingbirds in their gardens are invited to attend a free workshop at Pike Nurseries.

The Atlanta-based nursery chain will offer two Attracting Butterflies and Hummingbirds to Your Garden classes.

An adult-centered class will be held Saturday, June 7 at 9 a.m. at all Pike locations. A second session designed especially for kids will take place Wednesday, June 11 at 1 p.m. Both events are free.

Attendees will learn planting techniques and the types of flowering plants they should include in their gardens to bring in some new feathered and fluttering friends. Children in the Wednesday class will also make butterfly crafts.

(WXIA) -- Atlanta-area Pike Nurseries locations will say thank you to their loyal customers this weekend with a special cookout.

On Saturday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Pike will serve cold drinks and fresh grilled hot dogs to customers. Guests will also receive 20 percent off their entire purchases all day long.

It's a Blueberry Bonanza weekend at Pike Nurseries

(WXIA) -- The arrival of summer also marks the start of blueberry season, and Pike Nurseries is ready to celebrate.

This weekend, all Pike locations will host Blueberry Bonanza to get customers excited about summertime foods and the change in seasons.

The first 100 customers at each store on Saturday, May 3 will receive free "Tophat" Blueberry Plants, which can be grown in a garden or pot.

Pike will also host free blueberry-growing classes on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Attendees will learn about the fruit's health benefits and how to plant a bountiful blueberry harvest.

(WXIA) -- Ladybugs offer a great form of organic pest control for gardeners. They prey on damaging bugs like aphids, thrips and spider mites.

Pike Nurseries is helping metro Atlantans keep their gardens pest-free by giving away 1 million ladybugs this weekend.

The nursery chain will hold a Ladybug Weekend celebration at all of its stores. Customers are invited to attend free ladybug information sessions on Saturday, Apr. 26 at 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Children will also receive ladybug coloring sheets, and every family in attendance will go home with a complimentary packet of ladybugs.

(WXIA) -- Spring is just around the corner, and Pike Nurseries is preparing to hire 250 people for one of its busiest seasons.

The nursery chain, which has locations throughout metro Atlanta, will hold a career fair on Friday, Feb. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at its Roswell location (615 West Crossville Road).

Job seekers can also apply at any Pike Nurseries location. The stores are looking for anyone who is passionate about gardening.

Pike Nurseries recycling Christmas trees

(WXIA) -- Do you still have your Christmas tree? Pike Nurseries is holding a tree recycling event through the end of January.

Customers can bring their live trees to any Pike Nurseries location until Jan. 31. The trees will be chipped and recycled; Pike Nurseries plans to turn Christmas trees into compost and other environmentally friendly materials.

Pike Nurseries will also come to customers' homes and pick up their trees for $50.
