$10,000, gun, illegal prescriptions found at Acworth pill mill

ACWORTH, Ga.-- Cherokee County drug agents found $10,000, a handgun, and pre-signed blank prescriptions at an alleged pill mill in Acworth.

Cherokee County's Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) got its first tip about illegal activity at the Atlas Healthcare and Rehab clinic from an investigator with the state medical board responsible for monitoring medical doctors and practices. Based on that tip, and additional investigation, a search warrant was served Monday afternoon.

According to Cherokee County investigators, witnesses said prescriptions consisted primarily of Oxycodone, Xanax, Adderall, Lortab, Soma, and Valium. The actions described by those witnesses and employees violate Georgia's law on controlled narcotics.

On Monday afternoon, agents seized records, over $10,000 in cash, a handgun, and several pre-signed blank prescriptions.

Forty-one-year-old Tom Hourin was acting as the owner and operator of the clinic. He was arrested and now faces 18 felony charges including Possession of Hydrocodone, Possession of Xanax, Drugs to be Kept in Original Container and Unlawful use of a Blank Prescription. His bond is set at $224,680.00.

Cherokee County expects to process another arrest in the case later today. Dr. Kelvin White, 54 years old, was arrested at this residence in Fayetteville, Georgia. Dr. White will be transported to Cherokee County sometime Tuesday to face 18 felony counts.

Cherokee County CMANS agents tell 11Alive they expect additional arrests in the case.
