Father of victim: She was my world; killer was step-cousin | News
ACWORTH, Ga. -- A Cobb County community is in shock Sunday after a high school student was found brutally stabbed to death.
17-year-old Abbey Hebert was found dead in her front yard just before 9 a.m. Saturday. The suspect is her own step-cousin.
11Alive's Ryan Kruger spoke with the victim's father.
He lives in Louisiana, where his daughter Abbey was born.
Since he couldn't be with her, he texted her every morning so she would know he loved her.
The 17-year-old victim was a senior at Alatoona High School in Acworth.
The father said Abbey and her step-cousin, 18-year-old Olivia Smith, went to the football game Friday night. The two girls were close and often spent time together.
Olivia slept over at Abbey's house that night.
Saturday morning, they ate breakfast; everything seemed normal. Then just before 9 a.m., Abbey's father said Olivia walked to a neighbor's house and said she needed help. Abbey had been stabbed to death and was lying in the grass.
"My daughter loved life," the victim's father said. "She was the only child I had. She was my world."
Since the tragic death, those that knew Abbey have been working to show that she was also a big part of their own life.
Meanwhile, Abbey's step-cousin Olivia is being held at the Cobb County jail without bond.
She's charged with felony murder.
