Cherokee Co. man stabbed while children slept | News
ACWORTH -- A 22-year-old man from Cherokee County died from stabbing injuries early Sunday after a domestic dispute broke out at a mobile home park.
Cherokee County Sheriff's officials are investigating the incident, which happened around 12:30 a.m. at the Hidden Falls mobile home park in Acworth.
According to reports, Sheriff's deputies found the victim, 22-year-old Jayquan Smallwood, with multiple stab woulds to the chest inside the home of Acworth couple, Nolan and Jessica Hoad.
Investigators said Smallwood rented a room from the Hoads' home, where they lived with their three children. Nolan's brother, Cloyse Hoad, and his mother, Emily Pomeroy, were also visiting at the time of the incident.
Deputies said an argument about money broke out between Smallwood and Nolan early that morning. The 22-year-old allegedly attacked Nolan while holding a knife, leading Cloyse to allegedly come to his brother's defense. That's when witnesses said Smallwood was somehow stabbed three times in the chest during the altercation. Smallwood was transported to the hospital, but later died from his injuries. Nolan suffered minor puncture wounds to his shoulder and is expected to recover.
Authorities are still investigating the incident and spent Sunday interviewing the the Hoads and Pomeroy.
No charges haven been filed at this time, as authorities try to determine a motive.
