One hospitalized after driving into Acworth antique store

ACWORTH, Ga. -- One woman was hospitalized after she drove into a building in downtown Acworth on Thursday afternoon. 

According to Acworth Police, the single-vehicle accident caused Northside Drive and Cherokee Street to be shut down to thru traffic for a number of hours. 

The incident happened around 4:50 p.m., authorities say an adult woman collided with the Historic Acworth Antiques storefront. The woman was transported to a local medical center with unspecified injuries. 

Officials are on the scene assessing the damage and checking the integrity of the building. Acworth Police say the building has been a staple in Downtown Acworth since 1894 when it was erected. The building is listed on the National Historic Registry. 

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
