KSU student wins S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award

ACWORTH, Ga. -- A Cobb County Chick-fil-A team member is one of only 25 people nationwide to win the 2013 S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award.

Kimberly Westwood received her prize Monday at the Acworth Chick-fil-A where she works. The $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a handful of the 1,600 Chick-fil-A Leadership Scholarship winners.

Westwood is one of four Georgians to earn the award this year.

"Kimberly personifies the qualities the S. Truett Cathy Scholar Award was created to recognize. She leads by example in our restaurant and community," Acworth Chick-fil-A operator Andy Duncan said in a statement. "I am delighted that her hard work, positive attitude and leadership have been rewarded with this prestigious scholarship."

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Author and Marietta resident Dan Farr will host a book signing in Acworth next month.

Farr will sign copies of Final Score! Sports Devotions Volume 1 on Saturday, Mar. 2 at Books-A-Million. He will be at the store from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Paulding County-based author Bryan M. Powell will hold a signing for his latest book in Acworth this weekend.

The novel, Stranger in the White House, is the newest addition to Powell's Stranger Series.

He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Acworth Bookstore.

Eat barbeque to help Acworth man

ACWORTH, Ga. -- An Acworth man is in need, and residents will band together this week to help him.

Jeff Murch, a longtime resident and businessman, has been battling cancer for several years.

His friends and neighbors will host a Helping One Guy event to raise money for his treatment. The fun will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at JD's BBQ in downtown Acworth.

Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy some great food while showing their love for Murch.
