Items needed for 'Old Acworth Jail' display

ACWORTH, Ga. -- The Acworth Police Department is looking for items to display in the Old Acworth Jail (4357 Senator Russell Avenue, 30101).

Local residents are asked to look through their belongings to see if they have anything that would help the police document the history of their department and the jail.

Items of interest include photos, newspaper articles, police uniforms and badges, etc. Pictures and articles will be copied and returned to their owners on request.

The "Old Acworth Jail" was built in 1935 and was in use until 1995. The police department wants to preserve the facility as a piece of local history.

The building, which still contains its original cells, is listed as a historical landmark.
