If You Know Me, You Know I LOVE My Tea! Register Now For Your FREE Chick-Fil-A Tea, August 1-13,2011

I have a confession: My name is Maura, and I’m a tea-a-holic.

I’m a daily tea drinker. Chick-Fil-A is my “dealer” of choice, and it helps that there’s one located right around the corner from my house. My Twitter friends tease me about my check-ins, my clients give me gift cards to feed the need, and I’m rarely out and about without that red-and-white styrofoam cup in my car filled with freshly brewed refreshment.

How happy am I, then, to hear the words “Chick-Fil-A” and “free” and “tea” in the same sentence?

It’s true! From August 1 through 13, 2011, Chick-Fil-A is giving away free half-gallons of their tea to you and me for The Great Tea Giveaway!

Local teachers to receive free school supplies from Staples

ATLANTA -- Every year, more than 90 percent of American teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on classroom supplies, according to the National Education Association.

Now, with the first day of school less than a week away for some, Metro Atlanta Staples stores are offering local teachers a big helping hand.

Saturday, July 30 is Teacher Appreciation Day at Staples. The first 100 teachers to visit certain Atlanta-area stores from 9 a.m.

Free and cheap school supplies

Free and cheap school supplies

ATLANTA -- This is the best time of year to buy both school supplies and office supplies.  Some things are as low as a penny, or even free after rebates!

I set out to find the best deals on a typical kindergarten or first grade supply list from Atlanta Public Schools.

I found the most convenient way to buy supplies is to order them through SchoolPak.com. The company will ship a box of required supplies to your home or school. The first grade list came to $55.34 including shipping.

I set out to see if I could find better deals in the stores. First our summer intern Katie and I went through the weekly sale flyers in search of the lowest possible prices for every item on our list.

Meet the author of 'My Friend Noah'

Meet the author of 'My Friend Noah'

ACWORTH, Ga. -- The author of a new children's book called "My Friend Noah" will be signing copies of her book in Acworth next weekend.

Barbara Tarnow lives in White, Ga. She will be at the Staples on Cobb Parkway from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 30.

"My Friend Noah" is about a boy named Zac who is startled by the actions of Noah, a kid in his first grade class. First Noah shakes his hand, then he gives Zac a big hug.

Zac soon learns that Noah talks funny too. That's when his teacher explains that Noah has Down syndrome.

"My Friend Noah" teaches children that people who talk and act a little differently can still be very good friends.

Tellus Museum reaches 500,000 visitors

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Tellus Science Museum welcomed its 500,000th visitor Friday, less than three years after opening its doors.

The lucky guest was 11-year-old Danielle Ivanov, a Florida resident who was visiting the museum with her mother and grandparents.

"It was cool," she said. "I'm excited."

Gary Hankins, Danielle's grandfather, knew there was a chance they could be milestone visitors.

"On the way over, I was saying it could be us," he said.
